Best Time to Post on Facebook in Malaysia (2026 Data)

Best Time to Post on Facebook in Malaysia (2026 Data)

Posting at the right time will not rescue a weak post, but it gives a good post a better chance of early likes, comments and shares. This guide puts the latest 2026 studies into Malaysia time, shows where they disagree, and explains how to find your own best time.

What is the best time to post on Facebook in Malaysia?

The 2026 data points to weekdays, but the two biggest studies disagree on the hour: Sprout Social found Tuesday and Wednesday, 12–8pm, while Buffer found Thursday 9am and weekday mornings strongest. For a Malaysian audience, test a morning window (8–10am) and an afternoon window (12–3pm) Malaysia time, Monday to Thursday.

Both studies report times in the audience’s local time. That means a Malaysian page posting for Malaysian followers can use the times as they are, in Malaysia time (GMT+8). Older guides that quote US Eastern Time are a different matter: those times do not carry over to Malaysia without conversion.

What does the 2026 data say, and why do the studies disagree?

Sprout Social favours midday to evening on Tuesday and Wednesday; Buffer favours weekday mornings, with Wednesday its best day and Thursday 9am its best single slot. They measure different accounts in different ways, so treat both as starting points to test.

Sprout Social (2026) Buffer (2026)
Best times Tuesday and Wednesday, 12–8pm Thursday 9am (best slot); weekday mornings
Best days Monday to Thursday Wednesday, then Thursday and Tuesday
Worst days Saturday and Sunday Saturday
Data Nearly 2 billion engagements, about 307,000 profiles across six networks, 27 Nov 2025 to 27 Feb 2026 More than 14 million Facebook posts sent through Buffer

The two agree that weekends are weak and that the middle of the week is strong. They disagree on mornings versus afternoons. Sprout’s figures come from its customers’ engagement across several networks; Buffer’s come only from Facebook posts scheduled in its tool. Neither is Malaysia-only, so your own page data should settle it.

What is the best time to post on Facebook for each day of the week?

Monday to Thursday are the strongest days in both studies; for each day, test the Sprout window and Buffer’s top morning slot in Malaysia time.

Day Sprout Social 2026 (local time) Buffer 2026 (best, then other top times)
Monday 12–1pm 9pm; 10pm, 7pm
Tuesday 12–8pm (peak) 8am; 7pm, 7am
Wednesday 12–8pm (peak) 8am; 9am, 6pm
Thursday 12–2pm and 8pm 9am (best of the week); 8am, 10am
Friday Around midday 8am; 7am, 6am
Saturday No peak, avoid 10pm; 6am, 9pm (worst day)
Sunday Low, avoid 10am; 9am, 8am

How often should you post on Facebook in Malaysia?

Sprout Social recommends 1 to 2 posts a day for most brands, and warns that posting more often can reduce reach. Buffer’s 2026 Facebook study gives no frequency figure.

For a small business, consistency matters more than volume. A practical approach:

  • Pick a number you can sustain with good content, even if it is a few posts a week.
  • Keep it steady for a month before changing it.
  • If reach per post drops as you post more, cut back.
  • Spread posts across your best windows rather than stacking them in one hour.

What should Malaysian businesses know about Facebook timing?

Facebook still reaches a large share of Malaysians: DataReportal’s Digital 2026 Malaysia report puts Facebook’s ad reach at 23.0 million at the end of 2025, compared with 16.1 million for Instagram. These are Meta advertising audience estimates, not active user counts.

Local habits also shift the best time through the year:

  • Ramadan: daily routines change around sahur and buka puasa, so the usual lunchtime and evening peaks can move. Watch your Insights during the month rather than assuming normal hours.
  • Festive seasons: Hari Raya, Chinese New Year, Deepavali and Christmas bring long holidays and balik kampung travel. Engagement patterns change, and competition for attention rises around promotions.
  • School holidays and long weekends: audiences with children may be more active at different times of day.

Plan festive content ahead and check results against the same period in previous years where you have the data.

How do you find your own best time in Meta Business Suite Insights?

Open Meta Business Suite, go to Insights, and look at when your audience is active and which past posts performed best, then schedule into those windows and compare results over two to three weeks. Your own audience is a better guide than any global study.

  1. Open Insights. In Meta Business Suite, choose your Facebook Page and open the Insights section. Menu names change, so search for “Insights” if you cannot see it.
  2. Check your audience. Look at where your followers are. If most are in Malaysia, use Malaysia time. If many are abroad, you may need a second posting window.
  3. Review past content. Sort recent posts by reach or engagement and note the day and time the top performers went out.
  4. Ignore boosted posts in the comparison. Paid reach makes timing look better than it was.
  5. Test one window at a time. Post in one window for two to three weeks, then another, and compare average reach and engagement per post.

What about Instagram in Malaysia?

The 2026 Instagram studies look similar to Facebook: Sprout Social found Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons strongest (Tuesday 1–7pm, Wednesday 12–9pm), while Buffer found Thursday 9am, Wednesday 12pm and Wednesday 6pm best. Both use local time, so use Malaysia time for Malaysian followers.

  • Best days: midweek in both studies. Sprout says weekends are weakest, with Saturday lowest; Buffer says Friday and Saturday are weakest.
  • Data: Sprout used the same 2026 dataset as its Facebook study. Buffer analysed 9.6 million Instagram posts from January 2024 to December 2025 (published September 2026).
  • Reach: Instagram’s ad reach in Malaysia is 16.1 million, according to DataReportal.

We do not have a separate Instagram timing guide yet, so use these windows as a starting point and check Instagram’s own insights for your account. If you post the same content on TikTok, see our guide to the best time to post on TikTok in Malaysia.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best time to post on Facebook in Malaysia?

Start with weekday mornings (8–10am) and weekday afternoons (12–3pm) Malaysia time. Buffer's 2026 data favours mornings, with Thursday 9am the top slot, while Sprout Social's 2026 data favours Tuesday and Wednesday from 12pm to 8pm. Test both and keep the one that works for your page.

What is the worst day to post on Facebook?

Weekends. Buffer's 2026 study names Saturday as the worst day, and Sprout Social found engagement low on both Saturday and Sunday.

Do I need to convert US times to Malaysia time?

Not for the 2026 Sprout Social and Buffer studies, because both report times in the audience's local time. Older guides that list US Eastern Time do need converting, as Malaysia is 12 or 13 hours ahead.

How many times a day should a business post on Facebook?

Sprout Social recommends 1 to 2 posts a day for most brands and warns that posting more can reduce reach. Smaller pages can start with a few strong posts a week and post more often only if quality holds.

Is the best time to post on Instagram the same as Facebook?

It is similar. Both Sprout Social and Buffer find midweek strongest on Instagram, and Buffer's top Instagram slot is also Thursday 9am. Check Instagram's own insights for your account.
